There is a time that’s better than all others when it comes to making a career change - but the answer to “When?” is different for everyone. Find out the answer, and how to get your resume in order for your own specific “when” - even if that time comes sooner than you expect due to layoffs or firings. I’ve been asked if there’s ever one time that’s better than another for a career change, and the simplest answer I have is, “When you’re ready for it.”
Are you a member of the Boomerang Generation? You are if you were born between 1977 and 1989. It’s called the “boomerang” because many young people of this generation went off to college, graduated, and ended up back home with Mom and Dad. If you are among this group, know that it’s okay to lean on your parents for at least a little while as you get your career bearings.
To be successful at networking first of all you cannot allow yourself to be a wallflower. Here are my personal tips for success at a networking function so that you can be prepared (which will help combat any anxiety you may have about going and meeting strangers) and come off looking and sounding smooth and successful. 1 – At home, write out a list of your strengths, attributes, special skills, etc. so that you know why someone should be interested in your services, your resume, etc. Now these strengths are in your head to boost your confidence and remind yourself of why people should talk to you or listen to you. |
